Slow Cooker Ham&White Beans

My Mom would occasionally make ham and white bean soup, especially when there was leftover ham. It was always delicious. This is a recipe I found that is also very delicious and has become a family favorite. It takes about 10 minutes to prepare and 8 hours to cook.

Ingredients

1 pound package dried northern beans

ham bone, hocks, shanks or diced ham (about 1 pound)

2 tsp onion powder

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

2 tsp brown or raw sugar

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

2 Tbsp flour (to thicken if desired)

6 cups water

Directions

Rinse and sort the beans to remove any pebbles or discolored beans. Add the the rinsed beans, onion powder, garlic powder, spice, sugar, salt, pepper, flour, and ham to the crock pot. Add water. Cover and cook on low about 8 hours, until beans are tender. Remove ham bone, shanks or hocks and pull off the meat. Add meat to the crock pot and mix. Serve with cornbread.

To make the soup creamier, puree about 2 cups of the soup with a blender or blender wand, return to the pot and stir.
