Sweet Vinegar Coleslaw

Vinegar coleslaw was always a side dish that came with North Alabama smoked pulled pork. Making a pulled pork sandwich would consist of a hamburger bun, a little yellow mustard, a pile of pulled pork, some BBQ sauce, and some vinegar coleslaw. Served with potato chips, it is delicious.  


1/3 cup apple cider vinegar

1/4 cup water

2 Tablespoons sugar or Splenda (or other sweetener)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1/4 teaspoon ground mustard

1/4 teaspoon celery seeds (optional)

1 (10 oz bag) coleslaw mix or finely grated cabbage


  • Combine all ingredients except coleslaw mix in a small bowl and combine well.
  • Add the coleslaw mix to a large bowl, pour in the dressing mix, and toss to coat.
  • Cover and refrigerate several hours or overnight to allow flavors to blend.
