George Reid (Rowan Co., NC) later (12/12/1853) Carroll Co., GA volunteered as a private in 1792 at Greene Co., GA for the duration of Wayne's War against Creek and Cherokee Indians. He continued actively in military service for four years, guarding forts and scouting after Indians. "George Reid, Gentleman at Arms" is on an original muster roll of forty-six names in Feb. 25, 1794 of a militia troop of g\dragoons orgainzed in Greene Co. "to protect settlers from repeated invasion of Indians". this troop was to become famous in the annals of Middle Georgia. This roll is almost a complete roster of prominent families of Greene Co., GA George Reid moved from Greene Co., to Jackson Co. and became a representative in the Georgia Legislature for Jackson Co., GA in 1798 and again in 1804 and 1817. He was also Justice of the Inferior Court of Gwinnett Co. from Feb. 2, 1819 until 1821 and served as a Senator from Gwinnett Co. 1819-1821 and served in the extra session in 1821.
While a resident of Gwinnett Co., he was granted in 1822, by the state, 5971/2 Acres of "Head Right" lands in Jackson Co. He moved to Carroll Co. soon after it's formation in 1827. George Reid, George, Jr., Alexander, Henry of Rocky Comfort, and John Reid are listed as buyers at the Estate Sale of Matthew Gaston who died in Greene Co., GA in 1799. Margaret Reid also bought a lot of household goods. There were no other buyers listed. George Reid was named Guardian for Ann Gaston.

The first Reids in Carroll Co., GA for whom dates are available appear to be George Reid II, son of George and grandson of Alexander and Margaret of Europe, Penn., and North Carolina. This George was born in North Carolina, married Jane Gaston (Poss. of the Carolinas). Jane resided in Carroll Co., GA after George's death in 1855.
