Edmund was buried first at the friary of Langley then, after dissolution, removed to the east corner of the chancel of Langley.
A character in Shakespeare's play, Richard II, it is Edmund to whom his brother John of Gaunt gives his famous "sceptr'd isle" speech.
In Richard II, Edmund warns King Richard that forbidding Henry of Bolingbroke his Lancaster inheritance will mean trouble: "If you do wrongfully seize Hereford's rights, Call in the letters patents that he hath By his attorneys-general to sue His livery, and deny his offered homage, You pluck a thousand dangers on your head, You lose a thousand well-disposed hearts..." Richard II Act 2, scene 1.
