Misc. Notes
Adela "does not seem to have been an attractive character," writes Stephen's biographer John T. Appleby. "She was arrogant, self-willed, and proud, and after her husband's death governed her lands, as regent for her son, with an iron hand." But she was known as "friend of the poor" and became a nun in about 1122.
