NameLoarn , King of Dalriada (Scotland)
Death500
Misc. Notes
Loarn (or Lorn or Angus Muircheartach Lorn) was king of Irish Dál Riata from about 474 until 500. He succeeded Erc to the throne, probably following the tanistry system of succession.

Little is known about Loarn's reign except he lost many lands to the Picts forcing his daughter's son, Fergus Mor, to lead an army and retake them in 498. Loarn probably died around 500, allowing Fergus to declare himself king of Dál Riata that same year.

His descendants, through his son Muiredach, established the Cenél Loairne (House of Lorne) of Dál Riata which competed for generations with the other two houses: Cenél nGabráin and Cenél n-Oengusa for the kingship over Dál Riata and the Picts.
