Military: U.S. Army Full Obituary: Horace Perry October 19, 1924 - April 20, 2011 Life Legacy | Life Stories | Life Timeline | Historic Documents | Family Tree Life Legacy Mr. Horace Perry, age 86 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away at his residence Wednesday, April 20, 2011. He was born October 19, 1924 in Anniston, Alabama to the late Horace M. Perry and Lilly Muse Perry. Mr. Perry was a member and deacon of Eureka Baptist Church. As a member of the Greatest Generation, he served his country proudly during World War II, enlisting April 3, 1943 with 1st U.S. Army 234th Engineer Combat Battalion. Mr. Perry received the WWII Victory Ribbon and Medal. Also, the European Service Ribbon and Medal with 4 Battle Stars, representing campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe and a Regimental Unit Citation Ribbon and Good Conduct Ribbon and Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 2, 1945. He and Opal Norton married on April 28, 1946. Mr. Perry was employed at Thomasson Printing Company where he worked for 40 years and retired in 1986. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Opal Norton Perry; two brothers, Herman Perry and Charles Perry; sister and brother in law, Mildred & Monroe Windom. Survivors include his three sons and daughters in-laws, Wayne & Trudy Perry, Wendell & Avva Perry and Eldred & Joyce Perry all of Carroll County; grandsons, Kevin & Mandy Perry of Scotts Hill, TN, Chad & Denisha Perry, Joseph Perry and Daniel Perry all of Carroll County; granddaughters, Jessica & Steven McRae of Monroe, NC, Amanda Perry of Carroll County; one great grandson, Michael Ethridge of Scotts Hill, TN.; sister in-laws, Mrs. Mabel Perry of FL, Mrs. Betty Perry of Carroll County; and sisters, Lanell & Harold Burt of Carroll County, Vivian & Ronnie Ryder of Haralson County. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 22, 2011 at 11 AM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Danny Henson and Pastor Michael White officiating. Music will be rendered by Harold McWhorter. Pallbearers will be the following, Kevin Perry, Chad Perry, Joseph Perry, Daniel Perry, Jessica McRae, and Amanda Perry. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Windom and Ed Lands. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens with the American Legion Post #143rd making the flag presentation. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5 PM until 8 PM. Flowers are welcome but memorial contributions may be made to Carroll County Veterans Park, POBox 1062, Carrollton, Ga. 30112.
