Meredith G. Brashears - son of William Brashears and Mary Elizabeth "Marley" Clayton - born 5 May 1793, Spartanburg District, SC, died 4 Jan 1883, Ralls County, Missouri at age 90. Married Elizabeth McGuire - born 5 Nov. 1797 and died 27 Nov 1864.

"She was the widow Campbell from North Carolina", according to the "family book". "She was standing out to see the soldiers pass in 1815 as they returned from Charleston. Meredith saw her and said, 'There's my wife.' They had 12 children and reared 9" Both are buried Bethel Baptist Cem. New London, Ralls Co. MO, and have stones.

Meredith served in the War of 1812 and was discharged at Charleston, SC. He moved to Ralls Co. MO in 1849 and settled near New London. He and Elizabeth had twelve children, all born Spartanburg District, SC. Only nine are listed here.

In 1850 Census of Ralls Co, MO, with John Pettit, age 17, in household. The bible which son Major Dockins Brashears kept is now in possession of Bennie Brashears of Campobello, SC, who sent birthdates that differ from dates kept by Meredith Clayton Brashears. The surname is spelled "Breshears" in Major Dockins Brashears Bible.
