Statue of Yaroslav the Wise in Bila Tserkva, a town near Kiev founded by Yaroslav in 1023. He is holding the Russkaya Provda (Justice of the Rus), which was the legal code of Kievan Rus. While Ruskaya Provda shares a number of features with contemporary Germanic codifications (e.g., the Salic law), it is also distinguished by many pecularities, such as the absence of capital punishment.
