According to “A Brashear(s) Family History, Vol. 7”
156, page 419:
Isaiah Brashears, b. SC, 1805, (s/o Willam Brashears, Jr. & Elizabeth “Marley” Clayton); m. Rutha Pettit, b. SC 1807, almost certainly d/o John Pettit (John Pettit deeded Cherokee Co, GA, landlot #608, to Isaiah Beshears, in exchange for care for himself and wife in their final years - 18 March 1843, Spartanburg Co, SC, Deed Book Y, p. 186, witnessed by Meredith, Major D., and Elizabeth Brashears). Shortly after that deed, Isaiah and Rutha moved to Cherokee Co, GA.
Note: The witnesses to the deed transfer appear to be the family of Isaiah Beshears’ brother, Meredith G. Brashears, his wife Elizabeth, and their son, Major Dawkins Brashears. The family lived near Isaiah and Rutha Beshears according to the 1840 U.S. Federal Census of Spartanburg, South Carolina
159.
Many of Isaiah’s descendants spell the surname “Beshears”.
