Hello Mr. Perry. I ran across your family site while researching the Beshears and noticed that you listed Alexander's death as Va. I was told from by my aunt who would have been his great grand daughter that the passed down story was that the family had been contacted and told that Alexander was in the hospital in Augusta, GA. They prepared a wagon and went to Augusta, thinking they would be bringing him home. When they arrived he had died and already been buried. I went to the cemetery in Augusta that had been used for confederate soldiers and found his grave as well as the book at the cemetery where the burial had been recorded. The record stated that he died of pneumonia and I believe that it also stated that he was in the Augusta hospital but I could be wrong. I have a photo of the headstone and if you are interested I will send it to you. I would have sent it today but I don't have it on this computer. Your site looks wonderful. Good luck with your research.

Barbara is correct. Upon more checking, I found that the 2nd GA Hospital in Richmond, Virginia closed at the end of March 1863. The 2nd GA Hospital where Alexander Beshears died on 6 Mar 1864 was in Augusta, Georgia. His grave and headstone are located in the Magnolia Cemetery in Augusta where his name was engraved as “A. Bershear”. I have corrected the information on this record. -Mike Perry 1 Jul 2012
