ANALYSIS of EARLY CENSUS RECORDS for Joshua Pettit, Jr. of Spartanburg Co., South Carolina

I believe the Date of Birth for Joshua Pettit, Jr. of Spartanburg Co., SC is mistakenly listed on most records as "12 Sep 1773". Looking at the early Federal Census records, there is a Joshua Petit in Spartanburg in 1790, 1800, 1810, and 1820. After his death in 1827, his wife Judith appears in the 1830 census for Spartanburg.

1790 Federal Census for Spartanburg, SC:
Joshua Petit (1 Male 16+)
H is wife and a young daughter (2 Females)
They had one daughter born before the 1790 Census indicating that they were married before 1789.

1800  Federal Census for Spartanburg, SC:
Joshua Petit (1 Male 26-44)
His wife (1 Female 26-44)
1 daughter born before 1790 (1 Female 10-15)
1 daughter and 4 sons born between 1790 and 1800 (1 Female under 10, 4 Males under 10)

1810  Federal Census for Spartanburg, SC:
Joshua Pettit (1 Male 45 and over) - this indicates Joshua was born by 1765 at the latest. One marriage record indicates he was born in 1760.
His wife (1 Female 26-44) - Judith Poole Pettit would have been 43 at the time of this census.
Daughter (1 Female 16-25) - His first daughter would be about 20 in 1810.
Daughter (1 Female 10-15) - This is the second daughter in the 1800 census born between 1795 and 1800.
Sons (2 Males 16-25) - Two of the four sons born between 1790 and 1795 and appearing in the 1800 census.
Son (1 Male 10-15) - Third of the four sons born between 1795 and 1800 and appearing in the 1800 census. One son must have died before 1810.
Daughters (2 Females under 10) - Two more daughters born between 1800 and 1810.
Sons (2 Males under 10) - Two more sons born between 1800 and 1810.

1820  Federal Census for Spartanburg, SC:
Shows Joshua Pettit and his wife (both 45 or older) living with
2 daughters (age 16-25 and age 10-15) and
4 sons (4 age 16-25 and 1 of those 4 aged 16-18)
The two eldest daughters were probably married by 1820.

1830  Federal Census for Spartanburg, SC:
Shows Judith Poole Pettit age 60-69 (she would have been 63 in 1830) living with another elderly woman (age 60-69) and a young girl (age 16-19). This might be Judith's youngest daughter if the age is off slighty, since her daughter would be at least 20 years old in 1830.
