Per Mary Gill Smith:
From p. 232, Abstracts of Granville County, NC, book 5:
Thomas Pool willed $100 to his daughter Elizabeth for schooling. Thomas died on Oct. 4, 1799, and his will was proved in the November term of court that year. He listed his wife as Obedience and children Sarah, William, Burgess, Thomas and Elizabeth. Later court records indicate that Burgess Poole was appointed guardian for Thomas' minor child Elizabeth in 1806, presumably after Obedience's death. Assuming that a minor child is 17 or younger, Elizabeth would have been born, at earliest, in 1789.

Per Mike Perry:
This last fact is an indication that Obedience may very well have been a second wife to Thomas Poole, marrying him late in his life but while she was still young enough to bear him children including Elizabeth, who was born after 1789 and possibly Thomas as well. Children are usually listed by age in a will and Thomas is listed just before Elizabeth. The note also implies that Odedience died in 1806 since Burgess Poole was appointed as guardian to Elizabeth that year. This makes it plausible that this Obedience Poole is the Obedience Gill born about 1760.

It is possible that William “Tailor” Poole is not the William Pool named as Executor in Thomas’ Will. Anita Gale Poole posted a note in 2007 regarding another theory:

A lot of people seem to think that William "Taylor" Poole was the son of either Edward Poole or Thomas Poole, both of whom were born in the US. Not so. About 20 years ago, I discovered a piece of a diary owned by a grandson of William "Taylor" Poole in which it was recorded that William "Taylor" Poole was born in England and was the son of a sea captain who owned some property in England. This sea captain brought William to America in about 1751 and left William with either friends or relatives and was intending to return to England for the rest of the family to bring them to America. Somewhere between Goochland County, Virginia, and England, the sea captain's ship was lost at sea and there was no contact between William and his family after that. The property went unclaimed (apparently the family left at home was all females, as only males would inherit) and reverted to the British Crown in 1850.

Also, in 1804, William Poole - probably acting as executor for his father's estate - deeded some land to Obedience Poole.

Deed Book S Granville County, North Carolina 1805-1806
p. 141 William Pool deed to Obedience Pool for land adjoining that of Thomas Pool and Elizabeth Pool, March 2, 1804

This may indicate that Obedience was the mother of both Thomas and Elizabeth since she was given land that adjoined theirs.
